Securus Technologies’ efforts to make prisons better

Meet Richard A. Smith, the current CEO of Securus Technologies a company headquartered in Dallas, focusing primarily on prison technological solutions. The company was founded in 1986 and has its branch offices in Texas, Allen, Carrollton, and Atlanta Georgia. Its software-based solutions has attracted contracts with over 2600 correctional facilities in the United States resulting in job offers to more than a thousand people.

To ensure that they provide what they promise, Securus Technologies has partnered with Harris Corporation to provide ‘cell defender’ Management Access Control system to correctional facilities in the US. These systems were gladly incorporated into security systems by over five Department of Corrections in 2016, with the aim of curbing use of contraband mobile phones and other criminal activities inside prisons.

Though this system may appear to be serving only the inmates, it also provide security to the public against crimes conducted through the use of technology especially those perpetrated by the prisoners. To achieve this, the ‘cell defender’ ensures that cell phone accesses the mobile networks behind the walls of the prison unless through monitored networks maintained by Securus Technologies.

Besides monitoring, Securus Technologies collect, records, and analyses data and forward it to the authorities for recommendations on best ways to prevent crimes, responding to emergencies and serving the inmates and even the public well. Securus Technologies is doing it so well that the demand for these services is skyrocketing. This made them invest over $600 million in obtaining safety, security and efficiency product to satisfy its market.

Ricks Education and Experience Background

Before Richard A. Smith appointment to head Securus Technologies in 2008, he was the president of Eschelon Telecom Inc. a telecommunications company that operates in Minnesota, Colorado among other American major states. To accomplish such success in ever evolving world of technology, you need a solid ground in terms of academics.

For this reason, it doesn’t come as a surprise that Rick Smith has a degree in Electrical Engineering at the State University of New York based in Buffalo, an MBA holder from the University of Rochester, Masters in Mathematics from the State University of New York located in Brockport. His academic background and experience must be the powerhouse behind his leadership prowess.

He is also a Board Member at Integra Telecom Company a company that provides businesses’ access to fiber-optic networking and metropolitan fiber. Under Rick Smith leadership, Securus Technology has witnessed continued advancement in its innovations and offering communication solutions. Rick has enabled many families have best visitation experience with the inmates through his company. Ensuring that all the communications are free from hitches, such as blurred images and poor network connections between the outside world and the prisons.

Future projects for Securus Technologies

Under Richards’ leadership, Securus Technologies has plans to provide a more favorable environment for inmates. They plan to;

 Improve education targeting the inmates

 Reduce pricing to all of their products

 Introduce Tablet and smart usage by 100%

 Increase usage of their products among other objectives.

To ensure their efficiency, Securus Technology has incorporated a team of sales experts to its management team. Their main aim is to develop and execute sales strategies aiming at increasing their revenue from over 800 products. The sales team will be headed by John Bell.
