When Justin Fulcher began pitching telehealth to doctors and hospital administrators, he learned quickly which arguments failed. Framing digital care as a substitute for in-person visits tended to end conversations before they started. Clinicians who had trained for years around direct patient contact were not interested in being told a screen could replace what they did in an exam room.
Extending Care Instead of Replacing It
So Fulcher changed the pitch entirely. “This technology extends what you can already do. It lets you serve patients you can’t currently reach and maintain relationships outside the four walls of a clinic,” he said. That framing shifted the conversation from whether telehealth belonged in medicine at all to how it could be built responsibly into existing practice.
He is careful to note that skepticism from clinicians was not unreasonable. “Healthcare is a serious field and caution is warranted,” Justin Fulcher said. The goal was never to dismiss that caution but to redirect it toward implementation questions rather than questions of principle, which he describes as a far more productive place for the discussion to live.
That distinction became a foundation for RingMD as the company built out its platform across Southeast Asia and beyond. Doctors who might have rejected telehealth outright as a threat to their profession were instead asked to consider it as a tool for reaching patients they already knew they couldn’t serve through a physical clinic alone.
A Pattern That Held Across Markets
The approach proved durable as RingMD expanded into new regions with different medical cultures and different levels of comfort with new technology. Justin Fulcher has pointed to this early lesson in physician engagement as one of the more transferable pieces of his healthcare work, later informing how he approached institutional skepticism inside government agencies.
